Trainer/NVQ Assessor

McCann is a growing and dynamic organisation always looking to expand and enhance the services it offers.

As a leading supplier and installer of street lighting, traffic signs, signals, communication systems and associated civil engineering we can also play a key role in the development of project design and build ability whilst working comfortably within a wide range of contractual arrangements.

With a large, highly skilled, directly employed workforce we now have an exciting opportunity for an additional Trainer/NVQ Assessor to carry out the delivery of training and the completion of NVQ assessment to satisfy the requirements of the Highway Electrical Association and National Highway Sector Scheme 8.

* Have experience and technical knowledge in one of the highways electrical sector areas.
* Electrical Qualification / Experience
* Have Knowledge on NHSS8 and HERS
* Have an NVQ Assessor qualification (A1) or willing to achieve this qualification
* Level 3 Award in Education and Training (EAT) (previously PTLLS)
* Be self-motivated and able to manage their own work
* Willing to travel across the UK as and when required.

* To lead and administer the NVQ process and carry out NVQ assessments.
* Carry out electrical training required under HERS
* Deliver Highway England Passport Inductions as and when required and carry out HE passport administration.
* Support with the Build and maintenance of HERS portfolio’s as and when required.
* Look at and continually improving and implementing electrical training to standardise methods of work.
* Support with the Requirements of NHSS8 and HERS processes and compliance.
* Support with the ATO centre processes and administration.

The successful candidate will have a High level of commitment, good organisational skills, able to work on own initiative and must be computer literate to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Street Lighting Hiab Operator

In this role you will support the growth of our Street Lighting Business, carrying out various tasks within the titled role ensuring that all H&S objectives and responsibilities are adhered to. You will also assist as a team member carrying out the maintenance and erection of Street Lighting Columns, Signs and related equipment.

As a Hiab (Installation Crane) Operative, you will:

- Erect, maintain and remove street lighting, signs and related equipment, paying careful attention to buried services and overhead cables

- Excavate and reinstate coated and other surface materials

- Drive vehicles and operate ancillary plant (Hoists or Lorry Loaders) and, where appropriate, carry out vehicle and plant checks requiring routine maintenance and cleaning

- Transport goods, equipment and personnel to and from site

- Assist in the loading and un-loading of the vehicles using, where necessary, mechanical aids

To be successful in this role, you will:

- Have previous street lighting experience

- Hold a CSCS or ECS card

- Desirable - Manual Handling, Emergency First Aid and G39

- Hold a full UK driving license to drive over 3.5t

- Be a NRSWA Operative

- Hold a GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English

- Have excellent communication skills

Street lighting operatives

We are recruiting for Street Lighting Operatives to join our growing team. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for carrying out all aspect of electrical installation and maintenance works in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- Surveying, TR22, asset data collection
- Planned and reactive maintenance
- Installation of lighting column and LED technology
- Assisting in electrical testing activities
- Excavation and reinstatement
- Working at heights (MEWP)
- There will be a requirement to work some unsociable hours and overtime and to undertake emergency call out and standby when required


- Street lighting or highways experience
- G39 certification
- HEA Approved
- IPAF qualified
- Manual handling
- Abrasive wheels
- First Aid
- Holder of valid driving licence
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written)


- HGV Class 2
- NRSWA Units 1 to 9
- HIAB operations

- HGV Operatives (preferable experience/cert’s for Grab/Hiab but not essential)
- Labourers (preferably with CSCS cards but again, not essential)
