Hampshire NMIS MBU Phases 3 and 8 – Portsmouth.
The M3, A (3)M and A27 represent a critical part of the countries highway network connecting not only the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth to London but also their busy ports. Improving driver information to reduce both congestion and the accident rate was therefore viewed by the Highways Agency to be of strategic importance.
The works main comprised of new electronic message signs, CCTV cameras and Emergency Response Telephones, along with all associated infrastructure. The new message signs were able to show pictures as well as text providing road users with enhanced information about road conditions ahead with the traffic detection system deployed updating the information by monitoring traffic levels and speeds.
Geoffrey Osborne Ltd were the main contractors with overall responsibility for managing the scheme, with McCann’s acting as their principal supply chain partner, installing all of the communication systems infrastructure and a significant proportion of the associated civils works.
