M1 Junction 21, Traffic Flow Improvements
This scheme to improve road user safety and add capacity to this busy junction involved widening the motorway interchange gyratory and constructing a link road from the A5460 to the M1 southbound. McCann’s acting as a key supply chain partner for main contractor Geoffrey Osborne Ltd installed the infrastructure supporting the, state of the art, MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation) traffic signals as well upgrading the existing street lighting and signs.
The works were carried out within the stringent road space constraints available and successful completion was enhanced by the integrated delivery team’s strong focus of minimising disruption, through a strategy based on effective liaison and clear communication. This open approach to communication both internally and externally saw Osborne’s, and the team, win a Considerate Constructors Silver Award.
