RoSPA Gold Medal awarded to our team in recognition of 5th consecutive Gold Award

Our team has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Medal after the business was crowned with its fifth consecutive Gold Award.

The company has achieved this year’s Gold Award in the internationally-renowned annual scheme which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The judging panel considers entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

We collected our fourth consecutive Gold Award in 2019 and following news of our fifth this year, the business is also being awarded RoSPA’s coveted Gold Medal in recognition of ongoing commitments to best practices in health and safety – ensuring staff and contractors return home safe and well to their families at the end of every working day.

The presentation ceremony will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel with a date for 2020 yet to be confirmed. The team will be joined by award winners from a variety of sectors and industries in celebration of the country’s outstanding achievements.

Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants vie to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running health and safety industry awards.

Managing Director John McCann is delighted with the news and admits that the timing could not be better.

“Being awarded the RoSPA Gold Award for a fifth consecutive year is no mean feat and to be recognised with the prestigious Gold Medal is a fantastic achievement for the team,” says John.

“We can never put too much emphasis on health and safety in our line of work. Keeping our workforce on the country’s highways and motorways safe is our absolute priority at all times and that ethos comes from everyone – not just the people on site. Our senior leadership team, office staff and contractors all play their part in helping us to continually achieve these high standards,”

This is not our first piece of positive health and safety news in 2020. The business was recently named as a finalist at this year’s Highways England Awards within the Home Safe and Well Champion category in recognition of Project Supervisor, Keith Scott.

John continues, “I must congratulate everyone associated with McCann because winning this award, alongside our nomination at the Highways England Awards, is testament to the team’s collective hard work. Within the current climate of uncertainty for the UK economy and businesses, these bits of good news come as a much needed boost for everyone.”

Speaking about this year’s awards, Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations around the world, making it one of the most sought-after global accolades in health and safety.

“RoSPA wants every employee, wherever they are, to work safe in the knowledge that they will be going home unharmed and healthy at the end of every day. The RoSPA Award winners are vital to help achieve this goal, as by entering they are driving up standards and setting new benchmarks for organisations everywhere. Currently, around 7million people are directly impacted by the RoSPA Awards, but the scheme’s influence is even wider.”
